Description
Traveller fairlead (Aluminium) – Laser/ILCA
Whilst for a long time traveller fairleads were plastic, now they are available, it is as well to replace them with aluminium ones.
Over time the plastic becomes brittle but also lines that don’t stretch (Dynema), better cleats, changed sailing technique & fitter sailors have all added to the loadings on the traveller fairleads.
If a plastic one breaks there is a chance it will wreck your day & take a section of deck with it. Since the deck pattern is almost impossible to replicate any repair will be visible, affect the boats resale value & cost a lot more than two aluminium fairleads.
When you replace:
1) Take care not to loose the plastic nut on the underside of the outboard screw(s).
2) Seal the inboard screw(s) with silicone & take save not to overtighten.
Screw(s): #10 x 1″ (A4 grade) 4 required – 2 per side.
