Funboat – An overview
The Funboat was designed by Yves Loday.
The Funboat is of rotomolded construction & something of a cross between a catamaran & a scow. With two distinct hulls connected by a deck rather than beams & a trampoline, no centerboards, one rudder & a single sail with a high boom.
The result is a very simple, robust, stable & comparatively dry boat with plenty of space & curves, rather than sharp corners, which is easy to sail & “mess around” on making it a good family boat. It also has a larger “Sport” sail if more speed is required.
It could be described as a “marmite” boat but the sailing schools & centers that have these boats usually have quite a few so they have clearly found that it suits their purposes well.
Sail and Sport can provide all the spare parts to keep existing boats in operation & on the water – Sails, spars, rudder, ropes & fittings.
Future production of the Funboat is currently uncertain but at present it is looking as though if returned to production they might be expensive. Sail and Sport is following developments.
