Deck block plate with Harken 16mm “Air” blocks – Laser

The Laser deck block plate fitted with Harken 16mm “Air” blocks has been considered “the standard” for many years & is still the most frequently found in use. These blocks are attached to the deck block plate by two small clevis pins secured by two split rings.
Theoretically blocks with larger sheave diameters should be more efficient but these blocks have proved to be efficient, durable, reliable & cost effective.

The considerations when choosing deck blocks are:
1) Class rules – Minimum sheave diameter 15mm.
2) Class rules – Maximum sheave diameter 30mm.
3) Bigger blocks result in the Outhaul & Cunningham/downhaul secondary lines running higher above the deck which may interfere with the Compass mounting bracket.
4) Method of attachment to the deck block plate.
